Who I am
I'm 31 years old, live in Hamburg and spend an average of eight weeks a year on the road – almost never alone. I've been travelling with companions for years, sometimes with friends, sometimes with people I only knew through a platform beforehand. And I talk about it openly, because I think travelling together with strangers has an undeservedly odd reputation.
On Reisebegleitung24.net I write about what I've experienced myself: the week in Sicily with a travel partner I had met for the first time two days earlier, missed connecting flights in Lisbon, but also the questions everyone asks before their first joint booking. How do I split costs fairly? How do I find someone whose travel pace matches mine? And what do I do if it doesn't work out on the road after all?
How it all began
In 2019 I wanted to spend two weeks in Portugal, and three weeks before departure my best friend cancelled. Instead of cancelling the trip, I looked for someone through a travel-partner portal for the first time. I was sceptical, curious – and afterwards convinced. Not because everything went perfectly, but because I noticed how much more relaxed a trip becomes when you talk beforehand about what each person expects: budget, room arrangements, how much sightseeing, how much time for yourself.
Since then I've done more than twenty trips with a companion, good ones and exhausting ones. I want to pass these experiences on because back then I would have loved someone to tell me honestly what you really need to watch out for.
